India’s star bowler R Ashwin shattered a big record of the legendary bowler Anil Kumble on Day 1 of the ongoing 1st Test match against West Indies at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. Ashwin, who was ignored for the World Test Championship Final, made a blockbuster return to India’s playing XI.

It has to be noted that Ashwin’s exclusion was heavily criticized by fans and experts and many felt that his absence was one of the reasons behind India’s defeat in yet another ICC event.

Meanwhile, Ashwin gave a brilliant start to the Indian cricket team by dismissing the Windies openers — Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Kraigg Brathwaite. Ashwin made his presence felt in the 13th over itself as he dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul with a stunning delivery on the 5th ball of the over. Chanderpaul scored 12 runs off 44 balls, before getting dismissed.

Ashwin also created a historic record by becoming the first-ever Indian player to dismiss both father and son in the purest format of the game as he had earlier dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul as well. He became just the 5th bowler to achieve the milestone after Ian Botham, Mitchell Starc, Wasim Akram, and Simon Harmer.

Besides this, Ashwin also created a huge record after he castled Chanderpaul as he became the Indian bowler with the most bowled dismissals in Test cricket history. With this, Ashwin broke the big record of Anil Kumble, who earned ‘bowled’ dismissals 94 times in Test cricket.

India bowlers with most bowled dismissals in Tests:

95 – Ravichandran Ashwin

94 – Anil Kumble

88 – Kapil Dev

66 – Mohammed Shami

Talking about the ongoing game, the Indian cricket team made a stellar start to the game as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed both the Windies openers with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur also getting one scalp each. At the end of the first session, debutant Alick Athanaze was unbeaten at 13 on the crease.
