Virat Kohli led India brilliantly in the recently concluded Test series against England. India won the 5-match series 4-0 and prove to the world why India are number 1 Test team in the world. Now, all eyes will be on MS Dhoni, who will lead India in the One Day International (ODI) series next month.
Virat Kohli led India with authority in the year 2016. India didn’t lose even a single Test match in 2016 and they will end the year as the no.1 Test team in the world, which is always the biggest achievement for any team. Many fans and cricket pundits believe that India should hand over the captaincy of all the formats to Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni should play under him in limited-overs cricket. All this has put a lot of pressure on MS Dhoni, who hasn’t been in the best of forms off late.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganaguly termed the upcoming ODI series as a “critical” one for MS Dhoni. Ganguly also said that the selectors to start planning accordingly for the 2019 World Cup. This is what Sourav Ganguly said:
“While it is a justified question and I am sure Virat’s Test success will put pressure on the selectors, I think Virat will have to wait (for some time). He will become the captain in ODIs too one day and it’s just a matter of when. But the selectors will mull who they see as captain in the 2019 World Cup and then plan accordingly. I feel the (limited-overs) England series will be critical for Dhoni.”
