India vs New Zealand 2016: India need Rohit Sharma to fire in the big final

India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma is going through bad patch and he hasn’t scored anything significant in the last 4 ODIs. Rohit Sharma’s score in the last four ODIs against New Zealand are 14, 15, 13 and 11.

Rohit is one of India’s best batsmen in limited-overs cricket and his lack of form at the top of the order is hurting India badly. India are levelled 2-2 in the ongoing series against New Zealand and all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma in the final match of the 5-match series in Visakhapatnam.

Many believe that India are too dependent on Virat Kohli in the batting order. Virat Kohli’s individual batting scores in the last four ODI games – 85, 9, 154 and 45. And India won matches when Kohli scored 85 and 154.

In India, scoring runs at top of the order is very crucial as it becomes difficult to score when the ball becomes softer and spinner start operating from both ends. Rohit Sharma, before this series, was in good form and he was one of leading scorers in the world in limited overs cricket in 2016. But, in this series so far, he has struggled against the moving ball and has been found searching for the deliveries outside the off stump.

Rohit is a hardworking cricketer and he would give his best in the fifth and final match of the series. He is long overdue and there would be no bigger stage than the final of the series to get back into run-scoring form and reignite the faith among fans. India are hosting a lot of matches this summer and Rohit would want to stay in selectors’ good books by scoring runs and winnings matches for India.

There is no doubt that Rohit Sharma is one of India’s most talented batsmen, and he has proven that with brilliant performances in the shorter formats of the game. This is why a lot more is expected from Rohit, who will be looking to better his performance in the ODIs against England, scheduled in January, 2017.
