Before the match started, the toss was won by England who chose to bowl first. The match was opened with a big blow for Indian cricket team as the opener of the team, Rohit Sharma had to return back to pavilion after giving a very bad performance. He scored only 2 runs in 18 balls. Shikhar Dhawan, on the other hand, scored 44 runs and smashed 7 fours.

The skipper of the team, Virat Kohli scored 71 runs and smashed 8 fours. He was bowled out by Adil Rashid. Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni contributed a few runs to the total. MS Dhoni scored 42 runs, on the other hand, Karthik was also dismissed by Adil Rashid, after scoring 21 runs. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, both the players scored 21 runs each.
