IPL 2020: 5 Bowlers Who Can Win The ‘Purple Cap’ This Season

IPL 2020: Each year in the IPL, teams compete to be crowned champions at the end of the season. While cricket is a team sport, T20s can often be governed by individual performances which are enough for a team to win a match. And it is such match-winning and season-defining consistent performances which are acknowledged in every IPL season.

Just like batters receive an Orange Cap for most runs in the season, bowlers’ efforts are valued for most wickets with a Purple Cap. Here are 5 bowlers who can win Purple Cap in IPL 2020

 Imran Tahir

The retired South African leg-spinner, Imran Tahir has attained a great amount of success in the last couple of years at the IPL. He has been consistent in hitting the right areas with a certain understanding of his limitations in his abilities. Despite not being a huge turner of the ball, Tahir has been effective in picking wickets in the IPL. In IPL 2019, Tahir emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 26 scalps to his name. In IPL 2020, it won’t be any surprise if the 40-year old can yet again force players to dance on his tunes.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal is a vital part of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling arsenal. Playing at one of the smallest ground in India, Chahal has evolved as one of RCB’s strength in the last few years in the IPL. At times, he’s Virat Kohli’s go-to man to rescue his team out of trouble. The 29-year olf was quite successful in IPL 2019 and ended the season with most – 19 wickets for his franchise. Even in the upcoming edition, Kohli and co. will have their hopes pinned on the leg-spinner in IPL 2020 to help them with wickets at regular intervals.

Mohammad Shami

The last few years have witnessed a resurgence in Mohammad Shami. From being recognized solely as a Test bowler, the speedster has evolved to come up the ranks to be India’s all-format bowler. Even in the shortest format, Shami has delivered with consistency for India. His form as the international level has also replicated in his success in the IPL. In 2019, Shami was threatening enough to pick 19 wickets in the entire season. Playing for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, the team would hope for him to lead the attack with wickets in the powerplay and in the death overs.

Pat Cummins

The most expensive overseas player ever in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pat Cummins was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL auction 2020. Cummins will have the onus upon him to not only justify his price tag but also make a fair contribution in taking his team to the last four. After missing the last two IPL seasons due to various reasons, Cummins will be raring to go in IPL 2020. With conducive pitch conditions at KKR’s home ground, Cummins might as well fancy having a go at the Purple Cap in IPL 2020.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

India’s premier pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah is a little off-color ever since he’s returned from injury. However, his impact on the Indian team and the fear among the batters from the rest of the world indicates his quality as a bowler. There’s no doubt that Bumrah will be itching to back into form. And there would be no better platform than the upcoming IPL season. Bumrah is equally important for Mumbai Indians, as much he’s for India. He had a brilliant IPL 2019 and would be aiming to replicate his success in this year’s IPL.
