Mumbai Indians opener Ishan Kishan carried on his form from last season’s IPL – when he smashed two consecutive fifties in the last two games – to this year, hitting the Delhi Capitals’ bowlers to all parts of the Brabourne Stadium.
Bought for a record sum of 15.25 crore at the mega-auction, Ishan Kishan repaid the faith shown and trust put in him by the franchise by carrying the bat through the innings as wickets fell around him. On the back of Kishan’s entertaining 81-run unbeaten knock off 48 balls, which was laced with 11 fours and 2 sixes, MI posted 177 runs on the board, which felt was even 10-15 runs short against a depleted, erratic DC bowling attack.
Rohit Sharma set the tone early on with a four and a six off Shardul Thakur in the first over. Kishan got himself going with a beautiful cover drive four to Khaleel before nailing Thakur for a maximum over third-man. He creamed a couple of more boundaries off Axar and Nagarkoti while Rohit went gung-ho at the other end.
After the powerplay, Kuldeep Yadav put the breaks on MI’s innings with wickets of Rohit, Anmolpreet and Pollard. Although Kishan slowed down, he continued to milk singles before the boundaries came back again. Soon after Pollard’s wicket, Kishan stepped down the pitch to launch Axar for a gigantic six to bring up his fifty off 34 balls.
The southpaw then upped his ante in the death overs, hamming Axar for a boundary before raining down on Khaleel and Thakur with a flurry of boundaries to all corners, including a jaw-dropping whip off the ball on his legs. Kishan’s assault at the end helped MI reach a target their bowlers would feel comfortable about defending.
Fans were elated to see Ishan Kishan’s carnage on Sunday that took down the DC bowlers. Here are some of the best reaction to Kishan’s knock:
