Kuldeep Yadav had picked 5 wickets in the last three seasons for KKR. Today, in his first match of IPL 2022, for his new franchise, Delhi Capitals, the chinaman worked up his magic and snapped up three wickets against Mumbai Indians to announce his comeback to form.
And that happiness was reflective in his celebrations after taking his first wicket – that of Mumbai Indians’ skipper, Rohit Sharma. MI openers Rohit and Ishan Kishan had ransacked 53 runs in the powerplay as DC’s pacers looked toothless. Brought on for the 7th over, Kuldeep applied the breaks straightaway with a tight 3-run over.
In his second over, the wrist-spinner provided Delhi with their first breakthrough, dismissing Sharma, caught at deep mid-wicket off a pull shot on which he couldn’t get enough power.
Kuldeep was ecstatic for starting his season with a big wicket; he had had a tough time over the past couple of years with being out of form, and also injury recently. His celebration said it all: pumped up, jumping in the air, hugging his teammates, Kuldeep got all red-faced as he burst out emotionally.

His day was going to get only better after that. In his third over, he got rid of Anmolpreet Singh. Kuldeep invited the big shot from Anmolpreet with a floaty delivery outside off; the batsman obliged but only managed to slice it to the long-off fielder.
Kuldeep was part of another plan. It was smart captaincy from Rishabh Pant to hold back Kuldeep for the big-hitting Kieron Pollard for he is vulnerable against wrist-spinners. Kuldeep was brought back in the 16th over. The plan paid off as Kuldeep also dismissed Pollard, helped by a stunning catch from Tim Seifert. Kuldeep finished his spell with outstanding figures of 3/18 and he didn’t concede a single boundary in his four overs.
Fans were extremely delighted to see Kuldeep Yadav doing well and being amongst wickets. They hailed the chinaman for his brilliant bowling, wherein Kuldeep bowled quicker than he had previously and was also bold in varying his lengths.

Awesome to see Kuldeep starting the season so well. Has been sad watching him struggle over the last few years after such an amazing run – makes Delhi infinitely better if he clicks, in terms of overseas balance etc, but also just such a watchable bowler.

A smiling Kuldeep Yadav, rare sight these days.
Mistreated by KKR & Indian team management. Not enough opportunities given.
Glad he has the backing of Rohit and Pant.
3-18 when opposition scored 177 is a top effort. Pitch didn’t help spinners, small ground. #DCvMI #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/y7kNzaWO8q

Terrific by Kuldeep Yadav. He looks like a completely new bowler. Quicker through the air, varying the lengths seamlessly. 4-0-18-3. @imkuldeep18 ??

Square leg up, Pollard doesn’t sweep. Perfect plan. Welcome back to the front line Kuldeep. Great spell tonight. #DCvsMI #DCvMI
