IPL 2022: David Warner Surpassed Chris Gayle In This Big Record

A stunning knock of 92 unbeaten runs from 58 balls by Delhi Capitals opener David Warner against his former IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad saw him go past Chris Gayle’s record of most half-centuries in T20 cricket.

This fifty was Warner’s 89 in the shortest format of the game; he has 8 centuries to go with it. He’s played T20 cricket for 13 different teams from Australia A, NSW, English T20 Blast to BBL, IPL and his national team, Australia.

Chris Gayle, monikered the Universe Boss and hailed by many as the greatest T20 batsman, has struck 88 fifties in his T20 career. Gayle has also smashed a record 22 T20 centuries. The big Jamaican left-hander has represented over 25 teams in T20 cricket having plied his trade around the globe.

India’s Virat Kohli is third on this list with 77 T20 fifties while playing for Delhi, India, Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

David Warner takes revenge on SRH

David Warner wouldn’t have forgotten his worst IPL season and the treatment he had received from the SRH management last year. Not only he was sacked as captain but was also dropped from the eleven. Warner, who led SRH to their only IPL title win in 2016, was rendered a cheerleader, waving the SRH flag in his shorts while sitting in the stands and at times was asked to not even come to the ground and stay back at the hotel.

And while Warner returned to form in the T20 World Cup in style, bagging the Player of the Tournament award and winning the title for Australia, his revenge on SRH was completed today as he annihilated the SRH bowling attack throughout the innings.

His thunderous knock of 92 runs in 58 balls included 12 fours and 3 sixes. He had started cautiously against the moving ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Once that threat was seen off, the left-hander tore into all other bowlers to raise another IPL fifty.

David Warner is the leading overseas run-scorer in the IPL history, with 5805 runs at an average of 42 and striking at 140. He’s hit the most IPL half-centuries, 54.
