Prithvi Shaw has sent a strong message to the national selectors with his performances in his four IPL 2022 innings so far. After scoring 38 off 24 balls vs Mumbai Indians and 61 off 34 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, Shaw then hammered a strong Kolkata Knight Riders bowling attack for 51 runs off 29 balls (strike rate 175).
He’s had a thunderous start to his IPL 2022 campaign after being ignored for India’s T20I team despite a superb IPL 2021 season – wherein he averaged 31 while striking at 159.
Shaw is a proper intent machine as he takes on the bowlers right from the first over and doesn’t relent at all – unlike other Indian openers who slow down post the powerplay, in the middle overs, before picking up the rate in the death overs. Not Shaw – who continues striking the ball hard, aiming for boundaries no matter the phase of the game.
Prithvi Shaw’s strike-rate in IPL divided by phases (before today)
Powerplay: 142.86
Middle overs: 148.31
Death overs: 147.68#IPL2022 #KKRvDC pic.twitter.com/ydTRixGxbx— Stat Doctor? (@stat_doctor) April 10, 2022
KKR speedster Umesh Yadav has been in superb form with the new ball. Shaw took him on – taking Umesh for 10 runs in the first over and for 14 (10 off the bat) in his second. Star Aussie paceman Pat Cummins was then launched by Shaw for his first six as David Warner, too, teed off at the other end. Shaw ended the powerplay with a swept boundary off Sunil Narine with DC’s score 68/0! – the third-highest score in the powerplay this season.
The Shaw-mania continued as the opener then tore into Venkatesh Iyer for a six followed by a four and brought up his half-century off 27 balls. He’d soon, however, lose his wicket, to Varun Chakravarthy, but by then had provided a strong start to DC and laid the platform for Rishabh Pant and others who were to follow.
Fans were happy to see Prithvi Shaw striking the ball as cleanly as he did last season and reckoned the 22-year-old should soon get a proper run in India’s T20I team.
Here are some of the best reactions to the Shaw madness:

A day will come when everyone with a vested interest in Indian cricket will give Prithvi Shaw the T20 opener his due, and for their own sake, I hope it happens sooner rather than later.#KKRvsDC pic.twitter.com/VMeiAMJEIo

Prithvi Shaw in limited overs, he just make powerplay count, waiting for the long run in Indian team.

Prithvi Shaw and adventurism. When he is in that mood, raining boundaries.

61 (34) in the last match and 50*(27) now. Prithvi Shaw has been absolutely unstoppable in these two games! Great intent! Has utilized the good batting conditions perfectly! #KKRvDC

It would have been very easy for Prithvi Shaw to convert into an accumulator, stat pad his way to 600 runs at 135 SR.
And you wouldn’t have blamed him because he has seen anchors get ahead of queue all his lifetime.
Thank God, the boy doesn’t have a selfish bone in his body!

Well played, Prithvi Shaw. Beautiful batting.
You will not make it to the national side, because the selectors still believe in “anchors”.
Not your fault. You are among the best in India in the format.
(Also failed the yoyo test but was not considered before that either)

If you’re telling me Prithvi Shaw is not being considered for India team because of his behavioural or attitude issues, excuse me, we are playing cricket here. Not running a family morality drama with Amol Palekar or Babuji in it.
