After a surprising, yet uncommon, blip last season, David Warner has got himself amongst runs in the IPL as he smashed his first fifty of the IPL 2022, against a potent Kolkata Knight Riders bowling attack on Sunday afternoon.
Returning to play for Delhi Capitals, Warner whacked 61 runs off 45 balls, his innings including 6 fours and 2 sixes, helping his side lay the platform for a big finish, duly provided by Pant, Axar, and Shardul as DC rumbled to the total of 215.
With this innings, Warner, already the leading overseas run-scorer in the IPL, became the first overseas batsman to score over 5500 runs in the IPL. The southpaw now has amassed 5514 IPL runs in 152 IPL matches at an average of 41 and strike rate of 140.
Amongst foreign players, the retired AB de Villiers is behind Warner with 5162 runs, followed by Chris Gayle who has aggregated 4965 IPL runs and is not part of the league this season.
In the IPL, Warner has struck 51 half-centuries – the most by any batsman in the league – to go with his four IPL tons. He has stroked a total of 531 fours – only behind Dhawan and Kohli – and 203 maximums.
David Warner had his worst IPL season in a decade last year when he scored 195 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 107 and was sacked as SRH’s captain mid-season and eventually being consigned to the bench and drinks duty.
He shut down his doubters at the T20 World Cup, bagging the Player of the Tournament award in Australia’s triumphant campaign. Bought by Delhi in the mega-auction, the southpaw managed only 4 runs in his first game this season, but now once again proved his worth with a sparkling fifty.
David Warner was involved in an exciting 93-run opening stand with Prithvi Shaw in just 8.4 overs while playing the second fiddle role as Shaw teed off. After the right-hander’s wicket, Warner and Pant continued the momentum. And while wickets fell at the other end, Warner held his, making sure that there was no collapse. He finally got out in the 17th over after which Axar and Shardul made sure they capitalized on the good work of the top-order.
Meanwhile, fans on social media are brutally trolling SunRisers Hyderabad after Warner wreaked havoc with the bat and created some new records.
Here, check out how fans are trolling SRH:
Every run David Warner scores is a slap to SRH’s management for what they did to him last year. pic.twitter.com/OA3B8Pov2N

Nice decision @SunRisers for leaving @davidwarner31 you guys don’t deserve such a valuable player. You guys have performed majorly well @IPL previously because of him and @rashidkhan_19 but anyways now it’s past?? You will eventually regret your decision.
