IPL 2022: Rahul Tripathi Spoke About His Majestic Six

The intent-filled juggernaut named Rahul Tripathi continued to roll on as he slammed 71 runs off 37 balls (strike rate of 191) against his former franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, helping Sunrisers Hyderabad to their third consecutive win.

Tripathi’s blitzkrieg and Aiden Markram’s aggressive stroke-making that yielded him 68 runs off 36 balls helped SRH not only win the match but also chase down 176 with 13 balls to spare, giving a healthy push up to their net run rate.

Bought for 8.5 crore at the mega-auction, Tripathi has maintained the ultra-aggressive approach that KKR head coach Brendon McCullum filled him with. In 5 matches, he’s scored 171 runs at an average of 57, more notable has been his strike rate of 178.12; only one player has a higher strike rate – 179 of Andre Russell – of all the 10 batsmen who have scored more runs than Tripathi this season.

What made this innings special for the 31-year-old Tripathi was that it was against his former team KKR, where he became a famous middle-overs enforcer with the bat.

“I enjoyed myself today. The time with KKR was special, and now it is special with SRH as well,” Tripathi said at the post-match presentation before which he had also shared a warm hug with KKR coach McCullum.

Tripathi’s takedown of mystery spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine was enthralling. Having played a lot of the two spinners in the nets when at KKR helped Tripathi as he launched one spinner over long-off and other over long-on.

“Varun bowls well, I didn’t expect him to pitch it up and that’s why I went through with that lofted shot. It wasn’t premeditated. It’s been very special with KKR, and now with SRH too in the last few games.

“I have been struggling with my health over the last few days and the management did a very good job with me. There are days when things get tough, but I enjoy the hard work and the good days. Before going in to bat, I am a little fidgety, but I am happy that I got this innings today,” he added.

KKR slip to the fourth position as their net run rate took a hit while SRH are seventh with 6 points; five of the other six teams above them also have 6 points.
