It was an end of an era and a start of a new journey for the defending champions — Chennai Super Kings as their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja begins his captaincy spell with one of the most successful T20 teams tonight. He took over the reins of the franchise from legendary captain MS Dhoni.
Cricket fans across the world were left shocked when MS Dhoni decided to give up his CSK captaincy just two days ahead of the IPL 2022. CSK via their official Twitter handle issued an official statement where they announced Ravindra Jadeja as their new captain.
As Chennai Super Kings is taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing opening clash at the Wankhede Stadium, it certainly was an odd sight to see Jadeja walking out wearing the captain’s armband tonight for the toss instead of MS Dhoni.
Meanwhile, ahead of Ravindra Jadeja’s first IPL match as CSK’s captain, his wife, Rivaba Ravindrasinh Jadeja took to social media and shared a heartwarming message for Dhoni. Overjoyed with the latest developments, Rivaba thanked MS Dhoni for stepping aside and making for Jadeja, while assuring that Dhoni would always remain the ‘Thala’ of the Whistle Podu army. She wrote:
“Congratulations to You (Ravindra Jadeja) for achieving this feat and u thoroughly deserved it! And thank u very much Mahi bhai for believing in his ability and giving him this opportunity! You’d always remain his leader and shall always be the Thala of the team,”
