IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma Made A Big Statement In Support Of Rishabh Pant

Rohit Sharma Made A Big Statement In Support Of Rishabh Pant: Although finishing with the wooden spoon, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians ended the IPL 2022 on a slightly happy note by defeating the Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets, bursting DC’s playoffs hopes. Their win helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore to sneak into the playoffs.

Rishabh Pant, the DC skipper, came under the firing line for his ordinary captaincy. For two seasons in a row, Pant’s tactical mistakes hampered DC to progress further.

Despite hearing something, Pant didn’t opt for a review when Tim David, on his first ball, had edged Thakur. David smacked 34 runs in his next 10 balls turning the match completely in MI’s favour.

Rohit Sharma, though, backed the 24-year-old DC skipper to take learnings from his mistakes and get better going forward.

“He is a quality captain, there is no doubt about it. It’s just that sometimes things don’t go your way. It is as simple as that. I have been through these kinds of situations before and I was just telling him about the same. Sometimes it just doesn’t plan out the way you want it to be. There’s nothing wrong with that. You can take a lot of learnings from all of this and try to keep things simple. He has got a great mind and he reads the game well from behind [the wicket],” Rohit said after the game.

Before the review debacle of David, Pant had also dropped a catch of Dewald Brevis when he was on 25; the South African went on to add 12 more runs, including a six.

Rohit attributed Pant’s errors to this being a high-pressure game with a playoff spot on the line. But the Indian captain showed confidence in the youngster as a leader.

“Look, it’s a high-pressure tournament and those little fumbles can happen. But it’s important not to lose confidence and not to start doubting yourself. That is something I spoke to him about. He is a confident guy, he will come back strong next season,” the MI and India skipper added.
