IPL 2022: Shane Watson Slammed Mumbai Indians

Former Australia all-rounder and current Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has slammed Mumbai Indians’ strategy to go all-in for Ishan Kishan. Mumbai Indians adopted a strange policy at the IPL 2022 mega-auction and didn’t go for some very good players who got sold at a bargain price.

Shane Watson said that blowing the entire budget on Ishan Kishan was a poor strategy by Mumbai Indians. Watson added that although Kishan is a very talented and skilful player but still he’s not “worth” bowling the entire salary.

“It hasn’t surprised me that Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the table because they had a shocking auction,” Shane Watson said during a conversation in ‘The Grade Cricketer’ podcast.
“Spending so much money on Ishan Kishan…He is a very talented and skillful player, but he’s not worth blowing nearly your whole salary on. And then, going for Jofra Archer, not knowing whether he is going to come back in. He hasn’t played cricket for quite a while. They have got quite a few holes in the team,” Shane Watson said.

Watson also criticised Mumbai Indians for burying Jofra Archer when it was absolutely clear that he won’t take part in IPL 2022.

Talking about his former team Chennai Super Kings, Shane Watson said that the team in Yellow are missing Shardul Thakur, who is new placing for Delhi Capitals, and Deepak Chahar, who has been ruled out of IPL 2022 due to injuries.

“In the previous years, they had Shardul Thakur. Deepak Chahar is injured. They paid a lot for him at the auction, but he is (likely to be) unavailable for a lot of the tournament, which is a big hole.

“They don’t have a quality overseas quick like Josh Hazlewood. Earlier, they always had a world-class overseas quick bowler. That’s why they are struggling.”
