IPL 2022: Suresh Raina Posted A Special Message For Shikhar Dhawan

Suresh Raina Posted A Special Message For Shikhar Dhawan: On Monday, Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan became only the second batsman in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to cross the 6000 run landmark. When Shikhar Dhawan came out to bat against the Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan needed just two runs to complete this feat, and he did that on the first ball of the second over.

This was also Dhawan’s 200th IPL match. Only Virat Kohli is ahead of Dhawan in terms of runs scored in the IPL, with the Royal Challengers Bangalore batter amassing 6402 runs; both Dhawan and Kohli’s average and strike rate are very similar for both have played the anchor role for most of their IPL careers. Dhawan has slammed 46 fifties and couple of centuries in the IPL.

As soon as Shikhar Dhawan crossed the 6000-run mark, wishes started to pour in from all corners for the left-handed opener.

Amongst many others, one special congratulation came from former Chennai Super Kings stalwart, none other than Mr IPL, Suresh Raina, who is the fifth-highest run-scorer in the IPL but now is not part of any franchise as he went unsold in the mega-auction. Suresh Raina took to Twitter to congratulate Dhawan on recording this historic milestone.

“Congratulations @SDhawan25 brother on achieving such a huge milestone of becoming the second player to achieve 6000+ runs in IPL. More power to you, keep shining!” Suresh Raina tweeted.

Dhawan has played for as many as 5 franchises in the 15 editions of the IPL. He started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in 2008 before playing for Mumbai Indians for a couple of seasons.

He then moved to the Hyderabad-based franchise Deccan Chargers followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad. He stayed at SRH till 2018 and attained most of his IPL success before Delhi traded him back in 2019 and remained their bank at the top till 2021. Finally, now he’s enjoying his time at the Punjab Kings.
