The ever hilarious Yuzvendra Chahal recently joked about how he could break Virat Kohli’s 973-run IPL season record if he opens the innings. Ever since joining the Rajasthan Royals this year, Chahal has at times bantered with Jos Buttler about opening the innings alongside the Englishman.
The 31-year-old leg-spinner has been in brilliant bowling form in IPL 2022 so far, and is the current Purple Cap holder having taken 24 wickets, including a five-wicket haul vs KKR that also included a hat-trick, in 13 games at an average of 16.
Although Chahal’s highest batting score in 39 T20 innings is a paltry 10, the leg-spinner has often rated him highly and joked about being promoted in the batting order. Now he claimed that if given a chance to open the batting, he’d break Kohli’s epic 973 runs record from the 2016 season in just 10 innings by scoring all centuries!
“If I had a chance to open – Then I would have broken every record, not just Jos Buttler. I think even Virat Kohli bhaiya’s record [973 runs] is left for me only. I’m going to break that record. I will break that record in 10 matches only because in every match I have to score a hundred, no? (laughs),” Yuzvendra Chahal said while speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s Polite Enquiries.
