Former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings superstar Suresh Raina‘s presence will be missed badly in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Raina, who retired from all formats of cricket including IPL, hasn’t joined the coaching staff of any franchise yet. Though, he might not be a part of the IPL in the playing capacity however he will continue to make his presence felt.

Suresh Raina Will Be Seen In A New Role

Raina will continue to share his expertise with the fans as he has been included in the star-studded expert panel for the much-awaited IPL 2023 mini-auction. Raina will be part of the expert panel for Jio Sports. The platform holds the digital rights of the league while Star Sports holds the television rights.

Last year, Raina took up the commentary role and impressed everyone. He had entered the IPL 2022 mega-auction but he went unsold. Raina will be joined by IPL veteran Chris Gayle and former KKR captain Eoin Morgan. While Gayle didn’t enter the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Morgan went unsold at the mega-auction.

The much-awaited IPL 2023 mini-auction is scheduled to take place on December 23 from 2:30 PM IST.

A total of 405 players will go under the hammer in the IPL 2023 mini-auction after an additional 36 names were added on request of the 10 franchise owners. Out of the  405, 273 are Indian players while 132 players are overseas and four players are from associate nations. It has to be noted that all the teams have already retained their core squads. Only 87 spots are up for grabs, out of which 30 are overseas. While 19 players are in the INR 2 crore bracket, 11 players are on the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. 20 cricketers have set their base price of INR 1 crore. Surprisingly, no Indian cricketer has set his base price at Rs 2 crore.

The likes of Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Cameron Green are expected to be the top-paid players in the IPL 2023 mini-auction. Each franchise can keep a maximum of 15 players on their roster. They are permitted to release a maximum of ten of their squad’s 25 players.
