IPL 2023: 2 Reasons Why Prithvi Shaw Is The Biggest Villain For DC

The David Warner-led Delhi Capitals have had a horrid start to their ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League campaign. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the points table, having suffered 5 defeats off the 7 games they have played so far in the tournament. And it won’t be wrong to say, that the young opener Prithvi Shaw has been one of the reasons behind DC’s poor run in the ongoing season.

2 Reasons Why Prithvi Shaw Is The Biggest Villain For Delhi Capitals

Prithvi Shaw

1. Inconsistency

Prithvi Shaw, who is known for his aggressive batting prowess, has been struggling badly to score runs in the ongoing season. Shaw has failed to fire up for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, scoring just 47 as an opener in six games, Prithvi has disappointed the fans.

Prithvi Shaw’s Scores In IPL 2023 So Far:

– 12 runs off 9 balls against Lucknow Super Giants
– 7 runs off 5 balls against Gujarat Titans
– Duck off 3 balls against Rajasthan Royals
– 15 runs off 10 balls against Mumbai Indians
– Duck off 2 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore
– 13 runs off 11 balls against Delhi Capitals

In fact, DC head coach Ricky Ponting has admitted that the team doesn’t require poor form as the team is in a situation where they need to win every game they play from hereon, in order to qualify for the playoffs. He had said:

I think the six games that he played was just over 40-odd runs, so that’s not what we require right now. So it is a tough decision to leave him out but hopefully the team that we put on the park tomorrow can go win another game for us,”

After a string of poor performances, Prithvi was eventually dropped from the playing XI of the team.

2. Failed To Play Anchor’s Role:

In the previous seasons, Shaw’s explosive starts in the powerplays were instrumental in the side getting off to a flying start, however, this time Shaw has failed to do so. He has in fact failed to play an anchor role for David Warner as well, resulting in a poor show from the top order.

Shaw’s struggles have doubled skipper Warner’s problems as he is not getting any time to settle as well as it is also exposing a relatively young middle-order early in the game.
