The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin on Friday, March 31st. Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore will kickstart their campaign in the star-studded league on the third day of the tournament with a thrilling clash against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (April 2).
As the IPL is returning to its original home-and-away format, Royal Challengers Bangalore will return to their home ground M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the first time since 2019. RCB will be looking forward to ending their title drought this season.
RCB will also mark the franchise’s 15th anniversary with a special ‘RCB Unbox’ event at Bengaluru’s iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The program will give the fans on RCB a chance to see their stars conduct a full training session from the stands.
Apart from this, there are some amazing performances scheduled to take place with the likes of Aditi Singh Sharma, Jason Derulo, Sonu Nigam, and Tulsi Kumar in line to perform at the event.
What is ‘RCB Hall of Fame’?
The ‘RCB Hall of Fame’ was announced by the franchise in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. In a special video shared by the franchise, Virat Kohli revealed that the ‘Universe boss’ Chris Gayle, and legendary South African batter Ab de Villiers will be the first ones included in the prestigious list.
For the unversed, across sports, a hall of fame list is something that is made to honor the performers of a sport, event, or team. The ‘RCB Hall of Fame’ will also see the best performers of RCB from the past and the future be felicitated for their contribution to the franchise.
Why is Virat Kohli not eligible for the ‘Hall of Fame’?
Batting maestro Virat Kohli, who is hailed as the run-machine, is the leading run-scorer in the IPL’s history. He is also a former captain and the only player in the league’s history to play all 15 seasons for the same team, i.e, Royal Challengers Bangalore. All of this makes a good case for him to be included in the ‘RCB Hall of Fame’, however, Virat can’t be added to the list.
The reason behind this is that only retired players are inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame’ and Kohli is still an active player. Both Gayle and Ab de Villiers have already retired from the league, therefore, they will be added to the prestigious list.
