Delhi Capitals failed to open their win account in the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League as they were defeated by the hands of Gujarat Titans in their second game. Delhi Capitals’ top-order batting unit has come under the scanner of criticism and trolling as they have failed to live up to the expectations of the fans.

Speaking on the Indian batters, there were some high expectations from the young talent Prithvi Shaw, who has failed to leave a mark with his performance in the ongoing season.

Just like the fans, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is also very disappointed with the performance of Shaw in the ongoing season.

Virender Sehwag Gave A Reality Check To Prithvi Shaw

In an interaction on Cricbuzz, Sehwag gave a no-nonsense verdict on Shaw’s performance and also highlighted how his development has been since he led the Indian team to the U19 World Cup in the year 2018.

He also compared Shaw with Shubman Gill, who was his teammate in the World Cup tournament and is now playing for the Indian cricket team in all the formats of the game. He said:

“He has been dismissed playing those kinds of shots so many times… but he should also learn from his mistakes, right?,”

He added:  “Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and is now playing Test, ODIs and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in IPL. He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs.”

Not just this, Sehwag also went on to compare Shaw with CSK’s young star Ruturaj Gaikwad who has already won the IPL Orange Cap once in the IPL and is also the leading run-getter of the ongoing season as well. Sehwag said:

“Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,”

Shaw has ow scored seven of five balls against Gujarat and could only put together 12 of nine balls against the Lucknow SuperGiants in the first game of DC.
