IPL 2023: Will The Upcoming Season Be The Last One For Dinesh Karthik?

Veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik had turned up as a different beast altogether, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. During the season, Karthik impressed everyone with his finishing skills as he thrived in situations where there were just a few balls remaining and always ended the game with a high. He was in supreme touch in the IPL 2022 and gave explosive performances at the back-end. He scored 330 runs in IPL 2022 and had an exceptional strike rate of 183.33.

All thanks to his brilliant performances in the IPL 2022, he was drafted into the national side immediately after the IPL from the South Africa series onwards. He chipped in with valuable cameos against South Africa and West Indies to keep his place in the team.

He was dropped from the Indian team after the 2019 World Cup before he forced his way into the side on the back of some stellar performances in the IPL 2022. Karthik’s fairytale comeback reached its peak after the veteran wicketkeeper made it to India’s T20 World Cup squad. The 37-year-old was selected as one of the two keepers in the team alongside Rishabh Pant. DK had clarified his ambitions to make India’s t20 WC squad earlier this year.

Dinesh Karthik

Talking about his stint in the Indian Premier League, he has so far played 229 matches in the lucrative IPL and has mustered 4376 runs and 20 fifties. He is an experienced player and a mainstay of the RCB franchise as well. However, age is not on his side and the upcoming season can be the last season for Dinesh Karthik. DK has achieved a lot in his cricketing career and IPL 2023 can be his last one as well.

Meanwhile, after he was named in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad for team India, DK took to his social media and thanked the three-time IPL finalists for helping him achieve his dream while acknowledging the coaching staff of the franchise. He tweeted:

“Thanks @RCBTweets for being an integral part of the journey and helping me achieve my dream. Most importantly to all the RCB fans who chant RCB,RCB even when am in my blues representing team INDIA , I LOVE YOU GUYS. THANKS @malolanr,@CoachHesson SANJAY BANGAR @basu2013 S SRIRAM,”
