IPL 2024: "He Didn't Even Raise His Bat..." - Brett Lee Hailed Rohit Sharma For His Selfless Knock

MI lost to CSK by 20 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14. The former MI captain Rohit Sharma scored his first hundred of the Indian Premier League 2024 season but couldn’t lead his team to victory in the 207-run chase. Sharma reached his hundred in 61 balls, in the final over of the game, when the match was already out of reach. He didn’t celebrate his milestone, which was his second in the IPL.

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee noticed this and praised Rohit Sharma for his selfless attitude. Speaking on Jio Cinema after the match, Lee commended the batter’s innings and remarked that Rohit not celebrating his century demonstrates how much the team’s victory matters to him.

Speaking on Jio Cinema, Brett Lee said: “Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred. The fact that he went out there, scored at a good clip too. I liked it when he scored his hundred, he didn’t even raise his bat. For me, it shows that the win means more than his personal milestone. You know, he played with real intent right from ball one. He played shots all around the ground, but then the power and the finesse came into play. 105 not out of 63 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes, just unfortunately, you can’t do everything on your own,”

Apart from Sharma, no other Mumbai batter managed to score even a half-century on the day, resulting in the MI chase crumbling in the final 7 overs of the match. Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tim David couldn’t provide much assistance to Rohit, leaving him with a significant task on his own.

Credit must be given to CSK, who effectively utilized their slower balls in the final 7 overs, taking wickets and restricting boundaries at regular intervals. With this loss, MI missed the opportunity to move up to the top half of the table and remained in 8th position with 2 wins and 4 losses from 6 games.
