IPL 2024: Fans Slam Punjab Kings For Not Celebrating Shashank Singh’s Half-Century Milestone

Fans Slam Punjab Kings For Not Celebrating Shashank Singh’s Half-Century Milestone: After the auction for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League in December 2023, Punjab Kings faced embarrassment when they reportedly selected the wrong player due to confusion over the name. They were unable to rectify the mistake as the auctioneer had already finalized the sale.

For the unversed, during the IPL 2024 auction, Punjab Kings accidentally purchased the wrong Shashank Singh for Rs 20 lakh. Instead of the 19-year-old batter they intended to sign, they ended up with a 32-year-old player from Chhattisgarh.

However, in a surprising turn of events, this unintended purchase proved beneficial as the older Shashank Singh showcased his batting skills and helped Punjab Kings secure a 3-wicket victory against Gujarat Titans in a match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Shashank delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 61 runs from 29 balls, including six boundaries and four sixes. His remarkable innings helped guide PBKS to victory with one ball to spare. Ashutosh Sharma also played a crucial role, contributing 31 runs off 17 balls, and together they shared a partnership of 43 runs off just 22 balls, boosting PBKS’ chances of winning, which they eventually achieved.

Despite Punjab Kings later explaining that they had intentionally targeted the uncapped batting all-rounder, who had gone unsold in the previous year’s auction after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad, some remained unconvinced and questioned their explanation.
