Not many knew more than little about Mayank Yadav until Saturday night when he rattled the Punjab Kings‘ batting order with his pace, bounce, and high speeds. Now, everyone wants to know everything about the young 21-year-old speedster from Delhi.
A very interesting bit that we have learned is that Mayank Yadav and his family lived only a few kilometres away from Virat Kohli’s house in the Motinagar area of West Delhi.
As soon as Mayank Yadav put on a sensational performance on his IPL debut, The Indian Express put up a feature on the youngster from Delhi. In it, it was mentioned that “Mayank’s love for fast bowling had started as a taunt by his father at their home in West Delhi’s Motinagar, a few kilometres from where Virat Kohli grew up.”
Mayank’s dream would next be to soon play for India alongside Virat Kohli.
Mayank Yadav’s father was a hug fan of Curtly Ambrose; Mayank grew up idolizing Steyn

Talking about Mayank’s father, Prabhu Yadav, he was a big fan of former West Indies pacer Curtly Ambrose. It was one talk he had with Mayank when he was 14 years of age when Prabhu told his son to aim for the batsman’s aid in order to put fear in the mind of the batter.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Mayank’s father, Prabhu, said, “I shared with him a story of Ambrose. Tujhe pata hai usse log darte kyu tey? kyunki wo sar pe daalta tha, tujhe darana hai batsmen ko toh wahi karna hoga (You know why he was feared because he used to hit them on their heads. If you want to put that fear in their minds you must start doing the same).
“Muhje Ambrose aur Walsh kaafi pasand they (I used to love Ambrose and Walsh). Ambrose more because of his pace and the way he used to bounce the batsmen. I used to keep telling him their stories.”
Similar to Mayank’s father being a fan of the great Ambrose, Mayank grew up idolizing South African legend Dale Steyn.
“I look up to only one fast bowler, Dale Steyn. I idolise him,” he said.
