Former Sri Lankan speedster Lasith Malinga has joined the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) as the team’s new bowling coach ahead of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

It has to be noted that the Rohit Sharma-captained IPL side recently parted ways with Shane Bond, who served as the bowling coach for nine years. The franchise has roped in Malinga for a crucial role.

Lasith Malings Joins Mumbai Indians As Bowling Coach

Hailed as the most feared bowler in the cricketing world, Lasith Malinga’s association with Mumbai Indians started in 2008. Yes, the legendary bowler has spent close to 13 years with the five-time IPL winners — 11 years as a player, 1 year (IPL 2018) as the bowling mentor, and 2023 MI NY Bowling Coach. He has won 7 trophies with the Mumbai Indians family. Malinga was part of Rajasthan Royals’ coaching staff in the last IPL season. Now he is all set to embark on this new journey as the bowling coach of Mumbai Indians.

Speaking about his new role, Lasith Malinga expressed his happiness and excitement. Sharing his thoughts, Malinga said:

“It is truly an honour for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians and my journey in the #OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town. I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan.”
