Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared his thoughts about the ongoing discussion about MS Dhoni’s role for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.
For the unversed, there’s a significant longing among the Indian fans to witness the legendary cricketer spend more time batting for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024.
Irfan Pathan Takes A Dig At MS Dhoni When Asked About His Batting Position vs MI
Pathan acknowledged this desire of the fans and also suggested that it would be a treat for both the CSK and the fans if MS Dhoni came out to bat higher up in the batting order for the rest of the season. However, Pathan also mentioned that he isn’t anticipating Dhoni to bat higher in the order for CSK during IPL 2024 because of his age. However, he also lauded Dhoni for his exceptional fitness levels.
Pathan highlighted that MS Dhoni has embraced a different strategy for his team by assuming a smaller role where he typically bats in the final overs to showcase his power-hitting prowess and finishing skills. Nevertheless, if Dhoni were to move up in the batting order, it would undoubtedly a treat for the fans throughout the ongoing season of IPL.
Speaking on the Star Sports’ show ‘Game Plan’, Irfan Pathan said: “The expectation will be there. However, he is a 42-year-old MS Dhoni. We still say that he is young because he has maintained himself like that. The way he used to come earlier after 10 to 11 overs, he used to drive, set up, and then finish the game.”
He added: “He has given himself a small role now where he comes to bat in the last two to three overs and plays big shots. So, I don’t see it happening. However, if it happens, it’s better for everyone, including the fans.”
