Is It The End Of Ravindra Jadeja At CSK? Michael Vaughan Answers

Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that Ravindra Jadeja may not be part of the Chennai Super Kings from next season onward following his axing as the franchise skipper during the season.

Jadeja has now been ruled out from the remainder of the IPL 2022 because of a rib injury which he picked up while fielding against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He then missed CSK’s last encounter, versus Delhi Capitals, and now, ahead of the clash with Mumbai Indians, the all-rounder was ruled out and he has already left the IPL bubble.

This brings an end to a disastrous season for Jadeja. He was announced as CSK’s new skipper two days before the start of IPL 2022. However, as the ship began to sink under the new captain – under Jadeja CSK managed only 2 wins in 8 matches – the franchise, handed back the duties to MS Dhoni, saying that Jadeja wanted to focus on his own game and take the pressure of captaincy off his mind.

Jadeja’s individual performances also were disappointing – 116 runs in ten innings, including two ducks, at an average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 118.36, and just 5 wickets with the ball.

While CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that the management felt Jadeja should leave the IPL bubble to recover quickly, sources of The New Indian Express have revealed that Jadeja was unhappy “in the manner in which he was removed from the captaincy as the all-rounder is believed to have shown interest to continue in his role”.

This has sparked up “concerns whether the all-rounder will continue with Chennai next season, especially after he was removed from captaincy”. CSK’s Instagram handle has also unfollowed Jadeja while the cricketer doesn’t follow anyone on Instagram.

Michael Vaughan is of the opinion that this rift has the potential to be the end of the decade long-time association between CSK and Ravindra Jadeja. Getting sacked mid-season, Vaughan added, also means that Jadeja may never again be considered for the captaincy in the future at CSK.

“There has to be a question mark over his position in CSK going forward. If it is that Jadeja has had a bit of a fallout because of the captaincy or whether he is injured, we have to wait and see what that is,” Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

“It might be coming to, maybe, the end of Jadeja at Chennai. Things come to an end sometimes, and a change can be good for both the franchise and the players.”
