Is Rinku Singh The New Captain Of KKR?: As the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series came to an end, the injury issues in team Indian players have increased. The latest one to get injured is middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer.

For the unversed, Shreyas Iyer was dealing with a back injury however he had recovered and returned back to the Indian squad for the 2nd Test match in Delhi.

After the second day of the play in Ahmedabad, Iyer felt a slight discomfort in his back and was immediately taken for a scan. Iyer’s back injury hurts both — India’s chances in the ODI series against Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) hopes of winning the tournament.

Iyer, who is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, is likely to miss the first half of the upcoming 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. KKR will not just miss their talented captain but his absence will affect the team’s performance as well, considering his batting prowess.

Well, suffering a major blow ahead of the IPL 2023, KKR is left with no captain for the start of the season. While there are a few experienced names in the competition to take over the position of captaincy including — Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana, Tim Southee, and Shakib Al Hasan but the franchise, recently, dropped a big hint about the person who could captain KKR in Iyer’s absence.

The hint dropped by KKR created a stir among the fans as the player was none other than India’s uncapped player Rinku Singh.

Well, recently, KKR via their official social media handles shared a video of Rinku, smashing stunning sixes during the practice session.

The video was flooded with the reactions of fans and to everyone’s surprise, the IPL team responded to the comments by calling Rinku “our skipper”.

The screenshot of the KKR’s comment calling out Rinku as their captain has been making rounds on the internet.

But Is Rinku Singh Really Going To Be The New Captain Of KKR?

The aforementioned screenshot has created a stir among the fans on social media, which has led to speculations. While the comment has been made by the official account of the franchise but no official announcement has been made by anyone associated with the franchise so far.

It is highly unlikely that Rinku Singh will be named KKR’s captain to fill in Iyer’s shoes. It has to be noted that ever since Rinku made his debut in the year 2018, he hasn’t played an entire season in the IPL.

Last year, Rinku got only 7 matches to play, which was also his highest number of matches. So,  it is very unlikely that the KKR management will give the captaincy responsibility to Rinku.

Let’s wait for the official announcement from Kolkata Knight Riders about their captain for IPL 2023.
