Popular commentator, television, and radio cricket broadcaster, Isa Guha couldn’t hold back her tears on live TV while paying condolences to legendary Australian cricketer Shane Warne. The cricket fraternity was left stunned on Friday, March 4, after Fox Sports broke out the news of the sudden demise of the ‘King of Spin’ – Shane Warne.
“It is with great sadness we advise that Shane Keith Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand today, Friday 4 March. Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived. The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course,” said a statement from Warne’s management company MPC Entertainment.
Guha, who is also a former England cricketer, has shared countless moments sitting alongside Warne in the commentary box for Fox Cricket. Together they provided plenty of entertainment for viewers at home.
The former England star broke down as she discussed the ‘magical’ Warne was and also the impact he had on her life. Isa hailed just how influential the Australian star had been in her commentary career. She said:
“Just stunned, just loved him, he did so much for so many people, it was magic, he was magic, watching him on screen as a cricketer, so many incredible stories of him playing cricket.”
“Coming into the Commentary box could have felt quite intimidating being around someone like Shane Warne, but he showed tremendous respect. When he respected and liked someone he always had that loyalty and generosity that gave me tremendous confidence in the commentary box. I loved working with him I loved talking cricket with him.”
She added:
“.. Tremendous excitement, I think, being in his presence, he really supported me in my journey as a commentator and as a broadcaster. I will never ever forget that, I went on to Melbourne to try and catch up with him but didn’t get an opportunity. I know that he is someone who had tremendous gratitude for everything he achieved the people that he met on his journey, his family, he always talked about his family, he was happy with life.”
Further, Isa went on to share a personal anecdote that reflected what made Australia fall in love with Warne. She revealed:
“We’ve talked many times Howie, about turning up to work, and we look around and Warnie’s rocking up in his shorts and T-shirt,” Guha said.
“Who knows what’s happened the night before but he’ll come in off his long run about what’s going to unfold in the day’s play.”
Guha also talked about the most endearing quality of Warne and claimed that many will perhaps miss the most about him. She said: “Just the magnetism that I talked about, you just wanted to be around him,”
