While Sehwag’s runs came in a 7-year period between 2006 and 2012 – he captained India in the country’s first-ever T20I in 2006 and won the 2007 T20 World Cup – Kishan had only made his T20I debut last March, and had struck a match-winning fifty on his debut vs England.

Kishan was part of Team India in last year’s T20 World Cup, and is likely to be the backup opener for this year’s tournament in Australia as well. At the moment, he’s facing competition for that spot from Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Overall, among Indians, Rohit Sharma leads the way with 3313 runs in the shortest format followed by Virat Kohli who has amassed 3296 runs.

Shreyas Iyer goes past Gautam Gambhir in this record

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer also overtook a former legend, Gautam Gambhir, in the tally of the number of T20Is for India. Iyer now has featured in 38 T20Is for India leapfrogging Gambhir’s tally of 37. In terms of runs though, Iyer, with 885 runs is still behind Gambhir who accumulated 932. Iyer scored 40 runs off 35 balls today in Cuttack.

Ishan Kishan continued his good form

After blasting 76 runs off 48 balls in the first T20I in Delhi, Ishan Kishan continued his good form – this time attacking more and having a better strike rate in the powerplay than he did in Delhi.

He finished with 34 runs off 21 balls, slamming 2 fours and 3 sixes in his fiery knock.

However, Kishan, Iyer, and Dinesh Karthik’s (30 off 21) knocks went in vain as South Africa sailed past the target of 149 runs with 4 wickets in hand and 10 balls to spare. The visitors now have 2-0 lead with three matches to go.
