James Anderson ended his international career after the first test between England and West Indies at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. England won the game by an innings and 114 runs. The legend retired with 704 wickets in 188 test matches and ended as the third highest wicket taker in the history of test cricket. He is the fast bowler with the most wickets taken in test cricket history. Anderson has influenced the cricket world for 21 years with his swing, seam, accuracy, longevity and the ability to trouble the greatest of batters. He was given a rousing reception at the Lord’s Cricket Ground after he walked out of the stadium for one last time as a player.
One of the finest battles in the cricket world has been the duel between Anderson and Virat Kohli. The English legend troubled him seriously and made life miserable for Virat Kohli in 2014. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli dominated him in the home test series in 2016 and India’s tour of England in 2018. Both these players have gone against each other with infectious energy and tried to dominate each other during their battles on the field.
James Anderson Hails Virat Kohli After His Retirement

In his post-retirement speech, Anderson stated that it was very easy to dismiss Virat Kohli when he first came to English shores. However, as his career progressed, it became very difficult to dominate him. Anderson dismissed Kohli four times during India’s tour of England in 2014. Virat Kohli came back strongly in India’s tour of England in 2018 and scored 600 runs in that tour. Anderson could not dismiss him once in that series.
“I feel like you go so up and down. Some series you feel amazing and then the next one, you’re not quite on it. Playing against [Virat] Kohli in the early days, you feel like you could get him out every ball; now, you feel like you can’t get him out at all and feel so inferior,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
