The IPL 2024 is two weeks into the tournament and none of the marquee Indian players have missed any game due to injury or other reasons. This has put the spotlight back on some players who skipped or missed the Test series against England (fully or partially) for various reasons.
Some Indian players – and these are big names in cricket – missed Test matches against England ahead of the IPL 2024, but are fully fit and available for their respective franchise in the IPL right now. A section of fans believe that these players prioritised the IPL 2024 over national duty.
5 Indian Players Who Became Available For IPL 2024 But Missed Test Series vs England:
Virat Kohli
For the first time in his career, Virat Kohli missed an entire Test series. He had arrived in Hyderabad for the first Test against England, but a few days before the start of the game, he left for London. It was later revealed that he was with his wife Anushka Sharma as they welcomed their second child, a son, whom they named Akaay.
Kohli is now back to action and kicking on for RCB. He is currently the Orange Cap holder at the time of writing.
KL Rahul
Rahul played the first Test against England, but then missed the rest of the four Test matches due to a quad injury. He has recovered from it to play in the IPL 2024, where he is leading the Lucknow Super Giants, and also he’s taken the gloves. Rahul’s decision to do wicket-keeping in the IPL, despite his quad injury and in the presence of Quinton de Kock and Pooran, hasn’t sat down well with everyone.
Hardik Pandya
Pandya missed all cricket action since picking up an ankle injury during the World Cup 2023 last year. He also missed the T20I series against Afghanistan. He has made his return through the IPL 2024, where he is leading MI.
Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer played in the first two Tests against England before being dropped. He was asked to play in the last group match in Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, but reportedly cited back pain and skipped it. This irked the BCCI who then dropped him from the central contracts.
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan skipped all international matches from December last year. He was named in the Test squad for South Africa series but then pulled out, and didn’t make himself available for the T20I series against Afghanistan. He is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.
