Jay Shah Announced Winners Of IPL Media Rights

The Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and has finally announced the results of a record-breaking E-auction of the IPL media rights for the Indian Premier League for the next five years, i.e, 2023-2027 cycle.

While DisneyStar has retained the digital rights for a sum of INR. 23,575 crores, on the other hand, Viacom 18 secured the digital and non-exclusive rights for INR 20,500 and INR. 3, 258 crores across three global regions – Australia + New Zealand, the UK, and South Africa. Media rights for two other global regions – the Middle East and the USA – have been secured by the Times Internet.

As per a report by ESPNcricinfo, the highest bid for TV rights in the subcontinent was 17.3% higher than the pre-match base price of INR 49 crore.

The complete breakdown of the record-breaking deals:

Package A: INR 23,575 crores | 57.5 cr per match  — Star

Package B: INR 20,500 crores | 50 cr per match — Viacom

Package C: INR 3,258 crores | 33.24 cr per match — Viacom

Package D: INR 1,057 crores | 2.6 cr per match — Viacom & Times Internet

Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League via their official Twitter handle confirmed the same and welcomed Star and Viacom on board. Announcing the big news, IPL wrote:

Jay Shah Reacted To The Record-Breaking Deals:

BCCI secretary Jay Shah also took to his Twitter and reacted to the mega-deals. In a series of Tweets, Jay Shah expressed how it’s time for all the associations and IPL franchises to work together to enhance the experience of the fans. He wrote:

“I congratulate Viacome18 for winning Aus, SA, UK, Times have got MENA & US, who win the Rest of the World Rights. The IPL is as popular outside India as it is here and the viewers will be able to enjoy top-class cricket.”

He added: “I thank all the bidders for their active interest in securing the IPL Media Rights. As a key stakeholder, the BCCI will do everything possible to help you realise the full value of your investments,”
