Kane Williamson Revealed How He Felt After Lifting The WTC Final Trophy

Kane Williamson, recently, led the New Zealand cricket team to a historic win in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship Final by defeating the Indian cricket team by 8 wickets. The New Zealand cricket team lifted the ICC Test mace for the first time, ending their drought for an ICC trophy.

Virat Kohli and company stumbled on the final day of the WTC Final, leaving the New Zealand cricket team with an easy target of 139 runs to chase. Kane Williamson played a captain’s knock in response and remained unbeaten till the end of the game (55* runs).

After the match, the visuals of Kane Williamson and his squad lifting the prestigious ICC mace went viral on social media and left everyone in awe of their journey.

Recently, in an interaction, Kane Williamson was asked about the moment. Responding to which Kane Williamson revealed that the mace is heavier than people would assume it to be. He also expressed his feelings about lifting the mace for the first time. He said:

“I mean we’ve never been able to hold it before so it was a different feeling. It is heavier than you think. We didn’t know it was real till we got our hands on it,”

Furthermore, Kane Williamson also talked about the performance of his side and said that he is proud of veteran players like Ross Taylor and BJ Watling. He said:

“There’s a real mixture in the side of newer players and experienced players. You got guys like Ross (Taylor) who is clearly our most experienced. He has been there for so many years and achieving it like this after all the hard work from everybody, the likes of your Ross Taylors and BJ Watlings.”

“These guys have given so much to our game. It is pretty satisfying that they will reflect on this as perhaps one of the greatest moments in their career,”
