Ever since Virat Kohli‘s stunning comeback to form, the ‘Virat Kohli vs Sachin Tendulkar’ debate has once again come to the forefront. Kohli started 2023 in a blockbuster way with two back-to-back centuries in the ODI format. With this, he has taken his tally upto 46 tons centuries in ODI cricket, and now he is just 3 centuries behind Tendulkar’s ODI record.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is hailed as ‘The God of Cricket’, holds the record of scoring the most ODI centuries in the history of this game, with a total of 49 centuries in the 50-over format. However, Virat is very close to reaching that milestone and breaking the record of batting legend.

Meanwhile, with the debate between Virat and Sachin has come back to the forefront, several experts and cricketers are coming up with different takes on this debate. Among many, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has also come up with an honest opinion on the subject. Kapil Dev claimed that each generation will be better than the previous one.

Virat Kohli On The Verge Of Smashing Yet Another Decade Old Record Of Sachin Tendulkar, Certain To Create History Against West Indies

Speaking to Gulf News, Kapil was asked to pick the better batsman between Tendulkar and Kohli. He said:

“A player of that calibre, you don’t have to pick one or two. It’s a team of XI players. I might have my own likes or dislikes, but every generation is going to get better. In our time, Sunil Gavaskar was one of the finest then we saw Rahul Dravid, Sachin, Virender Sehwag and this generation Rohit, Virat and next generation will be better. You will see a better cricketer performing better,”

The World Cup-winning captain also talked about India’s chances of winning the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. However, they will face tough competition from a few other teams. He added that several factors play a role in a team’s World Cup victory. He said:

“Yes, we have a team, but there are other teams also who have the ability to win the World Cup. To win the trophy, you need a stroke of luck, right combination and top of that the main players should remain fit, that’s the most important thing.”

He added: “When they play so much cricket, injuries are going to take place and I hope when they get to play the tournament they don’t get injured,”
