Former India captain and legendary batsman Kapil Dev lashed out at the BCCI and some members of the Indian cricket team for prioritizing playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over playing for the country.
These comments from Kapil Dev came out after India’s exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. The Indian cricket team was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2021 after Afghanistan’s 8-wicket defeat in their final Super 12 clash.
In order to stay alive in the tournament, the Indian side needed a favor from the Afghanistan cricket team. However, the Men in Blue were knocked out from the ongoing high-voltage tournament as New Zealand managed to qualify in the semis with a stunning win on Sunday.
Following India’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2021, the legendary cricketer and World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev have urged the BCCI to plan the schedule of the Indian cricket team in a better way while asserting the country should always be ahead of the players.
During an interaction on ABP News, Kapil Dev slammed the Indian players for prioritizing IPL over playing for the country. He said:
“When players prioritise IPL over playing for the country, what can we say? Players should take pride in playing for their nation. I don’t know their financial condition so can’t say much,”
He added:
“I feel that first in line should be the country’s team and then franchises. I’m not saying do not play cricket there (IPL), but the responsibility is now on the BCCI to plan its cricket better,”
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team will be seen locking their horns against New Zealand in the upcoming home series, which will kickstart from November 17.
