Virat Kohli gave the best gift to Indian cricket fans across the world on the festival of lights – Diwali as he played a crucial knock to help the Indian cricket team defeat arch-rival Pakistan by 4 wickets to win their opening game of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Virat Kohli stayed unbeaten on 82 off 53 balls as he almost single-handedly battled a lethal pace attack of the Pakistan side and maximized the last five overs of the chase to take India close to the finish line.

This knock of Virat Kohli was special in every way. With Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, opener KL Rahul, and power hitter Suryakumar Yadav walking to the pavilion of MCG in the initial overs, Kohli set the partnership of 113 runs with Pandya – who scored 40 runs, which helped the Indian side register a stunning win. Kohli found himself at the non-striker’s end for the last ball with Ravi Ashwin on strike and the scores tied, however, the latter managed to clear the infield to spark wild celebrations around the globe.

Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with amazing reactions from cricketers and fans alike on the stellar win of the Indian cricket team. Among many, politician Shashi Tharoor, who is very active on social media, took to his official Twitter handle and hailed the brilliance of Virat Kohli.

In his Tweet, Shashi Tharoor explained how he had to miss the flight scheduled for the game. He further went on to shower praises on the former Indian captain for his terrific innings. He wrote:

“After addressing a conference of Catholic universities in Goa this morning I declined the scheduled flight which would have meant missing the #indvspakmatch entirely. Even though the next flight is only at 9.55pm I was thrilled to see one of the great matches of this tournament”

He added:” And this man is both genius & authetic hero! Utterly awesome @imVkohli”
