Power-hitting all-rounder of Kolkata Knight Riders‘, Andre Russell failed with the bat on the team’s homecoming to Eden Gardens in IPL 2023. It is for the first time in four years that Kolkata Knight Riders returned to their home ground, however, it turned out to be a forgettable inning for Russell as he was dismissed for a golden duck against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Andre Russell Was Dismissed For A Golden Duck
His dismissal came on the first delivery of the 12th over of the game when he threw his wicket away by playing a reckless shot after Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to bowl. Russell hit leg-spinner Karn Sharma straight toward the long-off fielder, Virat Kohli, who completed the comfortable catch.
It was a big blow for the side as KKR had just lost half-centurion Rahamanullah Gurbaz for 57 of 44 balls in the previous delivery.
Notably, Russell has mesmerizing stats at Eden Gardens, especially against RCB. He has scored the most against RCB and also has the highest strike rate and average against them. In his last four games against RCB in home conditions, he scored 41*(17), 39*(19), 15(11), and 65(25). However, as he was dismissed on a golden duck the fans at Eden Gardens, who had turned up in huge numbers were left heartbroken with the dismissal of their star batter.
