India’s young opener KL Rahul will not feature for Karnataka in their fourth-round Ranji Trophy fixture against Assam in Mumbai, starting on Thursday. KL Rahul is recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up during the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. He will be undergoing rehabilitation and is yet to go through a fitness test, according to the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
KL Rahul is one of the most exciting young talents in India and the fans are eagerly awaiting his comeback. He has played some good knocks for India in his short career and many believe that he has the capability to open the innings for India in the long run, across all three formats of the game.
KL Rahul’s injury opened the doors for Gautam Gambhir, who made a comeback to Test cricket after 2 long years, and now with the home series against England just around the corner, he might might just get another opportunity at the top of the order.
Some media houses have reported that KL Rahul is “expected” to get fit before the start of England series, but we are still awaiting the official report. If KL Rahul doesn’t recover at time, Gautam Gambhir will be the automatic selection, as he played in the last Test against New Zealand, which India won, and he scored a fifty in the second innings.
We hope KL Rahul recovers soon from his injury but it will be interesting what selectors decide to do with Gautam Gambhir.
