This was the first time that India won the toss in this test series. The pitch at the Wanderers is a green track and a beauty for the seamers. But surprisingly India decided to bat first, now the question is, did India miss the trick and failed to pull some worth out of winning the toss? Shouldn’t have India bowled first?

India Should Have Bowled First

India has made two changes to the playing XI. Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain of the side finally got a game at the expense of Rohit Sharma. The second change came as the inclusion of Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Ravichandran Ashwin sits out. India has played all 4 seamers and Hardik Pandya would be the 5th seam option. It was a perfect opportunity for India to bowl first and make use of the full throttle pace attack.

The Pitch Is Doing A Lot

Just in the first hour of play, it is more than evident that the pitch is doing a lot. There is movement and bounce on the pitch which the South African bowlers are enjoying by all means.

Murali Vijay and KL Rahul, the openers were sent back very early and now you’ve got to doubt Virat Kohli’s decision of batting first. India had won the toss, India was playing all 4 seamers and the pitch was so perfect to bowl the why didn’t Virat Kohli choose to bowl first?

Seamers from India have been over the top so far in this series and this was the one pitch they will take the maximum liking to. Wouldn’t it have been a very wise decision to bowl first as the Indian seamers have been in great rhythm?

India is struggling with batting in the first innings and this makes this question more and more legitimate. Did India miss a trick after winning the toss? Will Kohli’s mistake cost India the match?
