The first Test of the ongoing 3-match series between Sri Lanka and India at Galle starts a new beginning for India’s swashbuckling all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The lad from Baroda has already cemented his place in the limited-overs side and by becoming the #289 cap for India, he has also started his Test career.
In the pre-match post conference on the eve of the first Test, Indian captain Virat Kohli had given clear signal that Pandya will feature in the playing XI. Kohli said that Pandya’s presence in the side gives India the balance they need as they can afford to play an extra batsman.
“We got a guy like Hardik Pandya, who has a knack of picking wickets. He has a great chance of playing as well. That gives us the balance. The extra batsman gives us more solidarity,” said Kohli in the pre-match presser ahead of the first Test.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted a picture of Hardik Pandya receiving his Test cap for captain Kohli. Hardin’s elder brother Krunal Pandya posted an emotional message with the same picture, for his brother.
“Hardik Pandya – Test cap no. 289 for India. To see you play Test cricket for our country makes me extremely proud. Well done, brother!”, tweeted Krunal Pandya.
