The IPL 2025 Auction will be held at the end of this year. There are going to be a lot of huge changes in the auction that will be held. There is a scheduled mega auction to be held and the IPL franchises had a meeting with BCCI to discuss about the several rules and regulations for the upcoming Mega auction. Let us look at the things that were discussed in the meeting between the franchises and the BCCI.
5 Biggest Learning Points From IPL Team Owners’ Meeting With The BCCI

- The franchises had different views about the number of retentions that each team wants. Some franchises want 8 to 10 player retentions. On the other hand, some want just 4 retentions. So, teams are undecided and don’t share the common viewpoint regarding the number of players that each team will retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
- The total purse for each team in the auction is 130 crores INR. All the franchises unanimously want it to be raised to 130-140 crores INR.
- There is likely to be increase in the number of matches in the upcoming seasons. As per reports, IPL 2025 & IPL 2026 will see 84 matches, while IPL 2027 will include 94 matches.
- The present rule states that once a player is brought, the franchises can’t increase the salary of the player or negotiate for more bonus or increment as is common with other jobs. However, the franchises now want the allowance to negotiate for bonus and increment with the players after they are bought. This is to stop poaching of the players by the other teams and franchises.
- There was no decision taken on the RTM picks of each franchises.
BCCI has definitely heard the suggestions of each franchise in the meeting. However, it’s now time for them to make the final decision. They will announce the rules and regulations of the auction by the end of August.
