List Of ICC Test Cricketer Of The Year (2010-2022)

England Test captain Ben Stokes recieved the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award for 2022, announced on Thursday, not only for his individual exploits, but as much for his leadership.

“One player defined the year of Test cricket more than any other in 2022,” the ICC said, hailing Ben Stokes.

Stokes along with new Test coach Brendon McCullum revolutionized Test cricket, like it had never been before, when the duo liberated their Test team to play in a style what is now known as the fan-coined Bazball.

The England Test team had been in doldrums under Joe Root and Chris Silverwood, barely winning matches even at home, let alone away from home. Stokes and McCullum gave freedom to their players, the security of being picked and backed despite failing, breaking the shackles of the players on and off the field.

The result: 3-0 win over New Zealand at home, defeating India in the Edgbaston Test and avoiding a home series loss, defeating South Africa 2-1 at home, and the biggest success marker of Bazball was the 3-0 series win in Pakistan.

That was an answer to those who questioned whether England’s approach was sustainable for a longer period and workable away from home. As it turned out, this approach was the main reason England were able to push for victories in Pakistan.

The biggest test awaits in 2023: the home Ashes in the summer.

On an individual level, Stokes was, as expected, fantastic: 870 runs at an average of 36.25 and 26 wickets at an average of 31.19.

“But sometimes the game is about more than just numbers, and in 2022 Stokes – along with new England head coach Brendon McCullum – completely transformed the form, fortunes and style of England Men’s Test team,” the ICC said.

Hundreds of pages and even books will be writter about the Bazball. But for now, in this piece we will tell you the winners of the ICC Test Cricketer Of The Year award of the past 13 years.
