Why is Maheesh Theekshana not playing in the IPL 2023 for CSK:
CSK started off their IPL 2023 campaign with a loss to defending champions Gujarat Titans, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik Pandya’s side defeated Dhoni’s team by 5 wickets in a last-over thriller in Ahmedabad.
CSK play their second match this season against Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, in Chennai. This occasion of CSK returning to play in their den, their fortress that is the Chepauk, has been a much-awaited one as CSK play at the Chepauk for the first time since 2019. That it is likely to be the last IPL season for MS makes it even more a grand occasion.
Why is Maheesh Theekshana not playing for CSK?
Maheesh Theekshana is currently in New Zealand, taking part in the T20I series against Tom Latham’s side. Hence, Maheesh Theekshana has had to miss the IPL 2023 until April 9.
Maheesh Theekshana is also going to miss CSK’s third match of the tournament, against Mumbai Indians on April 8.
The wily off-spinner that is Theekshana recently starred in Sri Lanka in their win in the first T20I against New Zealand at the Eden Park in Auckland. He bowled a brilliant Super Over to restrict the Kiwi batters to 8 runs, which Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka chased down in only 3 balls to give Sri Lanka a 1-0 lead in the T20I series.
Maheesh Theekshana joined CSK in IPL 2022, when the franchise bought him in the IPL 2022 mega-auction for INR 70 lakh. In his debut IPL season, Maheesh Theekshana snapped up 12 wickets in 9 IPL matches at a good economy of 7.46.
