New Zealand batter Martin Guptill surpassed Rohit Sharma on Sunday to become the highest run-scorer in the shortest format of the game. He acquired the top spot in the list of highest run-scorers in T20I cricket after he scored 15 runs against West Indies at Sabina Park in Kingston.

Martin Guptill Surpassed Rohit Sharma

Well, in the recently-concluded T20I of the three-match series between West Indies and New Zealand, Martin needed only 15 runs to leave behind Rohit Sharma. He now has a total of 3497 runs in 121 games played in the shortest format of the game. Martin has an average of 31.79 runs with the highest score of 105. He has smashed 2 centuries and 20 fifties in his T20I career so far.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s total in the T20I format is 3487 from 132 matches. Virat Kohli, who has been going through a lean patch in his career, is currently sitting in the third position in the list, with 3308 runs in 99 T20Is.

Following is the list of top 10 run-scorers in T20Is:

  • Martin Guptill (New Zealand) – 3497 runs
  • Rohit Sharma (India) – 3487 runs
  • Virat Kohli (India) – 3308 runs
  • Paul Stirling (Ireland) – 2975 runs
  • Aaron Finch (Australia) – 2855 runs
  • Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 2686 runs
  • David Warner (Australia) – 2684 runs
  • Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan) – 2514 runs
  • Eoin Morgan (England) – 2458 runs
  • Shoaib Malik (Pakistan) – 2435 runs

However, it is just a matter of time before Rohit Sharma will surpass Guptill again as the New Zealander isn’t going to play any T20 International match as of now, while Rohit Sharma will play T20 International against Pakistan on August 28 in the Asia Cup 2022 and he will leave Guptill behind by scoring 11 runs. If Rohit scores 13 runs then he will be the first batsman to score 3500 T20I runs.
