Aryavir Sehwag, the elder son of former India batsman Virender Sehwag, has been selected in Delhi’s under-16 squad for the ongoing U16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.
Aryavir could take his dad’s name forward in cricket after the 15-year-old got a call-up from the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) for this particular age-group tournament. A right-handed batsman, Aryavir is learned to have the bold, charismatic style exactly like that of his father, who used to torment the best of the international bowlers with his bat and intimidate them with just his presence at the crease.
A video of Aryavir doing his batting practice – read: hitting the bowlers disdainfully in a net session – has gone viral, wherein his attacking instincts can be seen. On three occasions in this video, the teenager used his feet well to dance down the track, come to the pitch of the ball, and hit it down the ground.
The right-hander also showed his backfoot game by walloping a short-ish ball. Very much like his father, who is a two-time World Cup winner and one of the most fearsome batters of all time, Aryavir also likes to take the attack to the bowlers.

Despite his talent, Aryavir couldn’t manage to get in the XI of Delhi under-16 team in their game against Bihar. For Delhi, opener Sarthak Ray played a terrific innings of 128 runs in 104 balls and another batter, Sachin, hit an unbeaten century while Pranav also raised a half-century.
While Sehwag’s son is yet to make his professional cricket debut, some of the sons of former Indian cricketers have had the experience at the top level.
Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan played 11 ODI matches for India. Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun, a seam-bowling all-rounder, has played for Mumbai and Goa in domestic cricket and has been in Mumbai Indians’ squad in the past two years, but hasn’t yet got his IPL debut.
