MI vs RR: Mumbai Indians Trolled With Memes After Poor Batting Display At Wankhede

The Mumbai Indians batters had a forgettable homecoming for their first match of the IPL 2024 season at the Wankhede stadium as they could manage only 125 runs against Rajasthan Royals.

Hardik Pandya’s MI hosted Sanju Samson’s RR on Monday evening at the Wankhede. While the crowd was fired up, the MI batters weren’t really up to the mark.

Trent Boult, Nandre Burger, and Avesh Khan demolished the famed Mumbai Indians batting line-up as the hosts couldn’t even get to a par total, managing a little over run-a-ball in their innings.

Boult did Boult things. He took three wickets in his first two overs. Rohit Sharma edged to Sanju Samson; Naman Dhir was lbw; and Dewald Brevis edged to Burger at short third-man. From the other end, Burger struck with the wicket of Ishan Kishan as MI found themselves struggling at 20/4.

Hardik Pandya, who got booed heavily from the Wankhede crowd at the toss, cracked a series of boundaries in his knock of 34 off 21, before holing out in the deep off Chahal. Tilak Varma scored 32 runs but couldn’t carry for long. Chahal came into the attack and took the wickets of Hardik, Varma, and Coetzee. Tim David was dismissed by Burger late in the innings.

This poor batting display from the Mumbai Indians batters made them the subject of memes and trolling on Twitter:
