Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma recently earned an undesirable record in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He now shares the record for the most number of ducks in the history of the tournament with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Dinesh Karthik.
Rohit Sharma encountered this milestone during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma Created An Unwanted Record With His Duck Against Rajasthan Royals
In a disappointing turn of events for the home team led by Hardik Pandya, MI was put to bat first. Their innings took a downward spiral as Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Trent Boult showcased remarkable swing-bowling skills, causing significant damage to the hosts’ batting lineup.
In the match’s opening over, Trent Boult dismissed Rohit Sharma with a well-directed short-of-length delivery outside off-stump. Attempting to play the ball, Sharma managed only a thick outside edge, which seemed to fall short.
However, a brilliant diving catch by Sanju Samson ensured Sharma’s early exit, earning him a golden duck. This marked the fourth occasion that Trent Boult has dismissed the Indian skipper in T20 matches. Sharma has faced difficulties against Boult, accumulating only 69 runs against him at an average of around 18.
Rohit Sharma’s dismissal marked his 17th duck in the Indian Premier League, placing him at the top of the list alongside Dinesh Karthik, who also has 17 ducks to his name. Following closely behind are players like Glenn Maxwell, Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine, each with 15 ducks in the tournament’s history.
