[Watch] Hardik Pandya Close To Bursting In Tears After Embarrassing Loss vs SRH

Hardik Pandya and the Mumbai Indians suffered the ignominy of conceding the most runs in an innings in IPL history when SRH racked up 277 runs on Wednesday night in Hyderabad, breaking RCB’s record of 263 runs from 2013.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma recorded their half-centuries in 18 and 16 balls respectively before Heinrich Klaasen blasted 80* runs in 34 balls as SRH achieved the record IPL score.

Mumbai Indians gave a strong fight with the bat and were in the chase until the 13th over. But then two excellent overs from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Pat Cummins, which they combined conceded only 8 runs and took the wicket of Tilak Varma, MI’s top-scorer, halted MI’s momentum and pocketed the game for SRH.

Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and batting both have come under heavy scrutiny in this game. He bowled only one over of Jasprit Bumrah in the first 12 overs until then Head and Abhishek had taken SRH to 177. With the bat, Pandya scored 24 runs in 20 balls, with the worst strike rate among all MI batters.

After the match, while shaking hands with the players and staff of both teams, Hardik Pandya could be seen getting a bit emotional. Even the generally hard-faced and calm Pandya let out some of his emotions about this huge loss. He didn’t smile as much as he generally does and stared into the distance.

Speaking about the loss, Hardik said, “Not really (thought SRH would score 277 at the toss). Wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well. They (the bowlers) were good, it was tough out there, almost 500 runs were scored and the wicket was helping the batters, we could have done a few things here and there, but having said that, we have a young bowling attack and we will learn. If the ball goes this many times into the crowd, you will need time to get the overs done.”
