It was a disastrous homecoming for former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma as he was dismissed for a golden duck by Rajasthan Royals’ Trent Boult in the first over of the match in front of a partisan Wankhede crowd.
The Wankhede faithful were left stunned by the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma, for whom they had been chanting all evening heading into the first ball that he faced.
Rohit already had a concerning match-up against Boult, who this time got the opener with an outswinger. It was a smart move from Boult to send one away-going delivery to Rohit, who seemed to be watchful for the inswinger.
The ball pitched in line and moved away. Rohit Sharma had a slight poke at it and it was enough to take the outside edge of his bat. Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain and wicket-keeper, gulped the catch brilliantly while diving to his right.
As Rohit Sharma walked off, the Wankhede crowd, that had booed Hardik Pandya, the new MI captain, earlier, was left shocked.
Rohit Sharma got trolled on Twitter for his golden duck against Rajasthan Royals:
RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first. Boult rattled the MI top-order. After dismissing Rohit, Boult got rid of Naman Dhir and Impact sub Dewald Brevis to have MI in early trouble at 14/3.
